Kaluga Region at SPIEF-2018: new development areas and new investment projects

On May 24-26, 2018 a Kaluga Region delegation headed by Anatoly Artamonov, Governor, is to take part in XXII Saint-Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). Saint-Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) is a unique event in the economic and business world. SPIEF has been held since 1997, and since 2006 onwards it has been organized under the auspices and with participation of the President of the Russian Federation.

Over the last twenty years the Forum became a leading global venue for communication of representatives of businesses and discussion of key economic issues facing Russia, emerging markets and the entire world.

Delegation of Kaluga Region will take part in business negotiations in all Forum-specific formats: meetings with partners, experts, leaders of world business, and representatives of international policymakers. Special services will be organized for participants at the Forum site: business networking session, areas of business communication, foreign country lounges, SPIEF Investment & Business Expo, themed lounge areas and meeting rooms.

Kaluga Region has been participating in SPEIF since 2007. It is not only an opportunity for the region to become a participant in discussing topical issues, but it is also a mechanism to enhance business cooperation. This year, negotiations are planned, which will be of great importance for further development of industrial sectors of the region. Agreements to implement new projects will be the principal result of such business meetings. Upon results of previous forums, agreements with Samsung, Volvo, Novo Nordisk, Nestle and others were concluded. In 2018, conclusion of agreement with Center-Trade Company is planned at SPIEF site specifying construction of building and engineering products plant in Vorsino Industrial Park. Negotiations are under way with another Russian company, which plans to build a processing facility at the site of K-Agro agro industrial park, as well as negotiations on a number of other projects.  

Infrastructural and investment projects of Kaluga Region will be presented at the consolidated Russian stand, which aim to promote modern high tech production and traditional industries. In particular, there will be presentation of 12 industrial parks, Kaluga special industrial economic zone with 1,042 ha surface (represented by two sites), transport and logistics system of the region, multimodal complex Freight Village RU, unique structural services, export-oriented projects of New Silk Road, centers of technology competencies of sectoral clusters.   

Formation of Priority Social and Economic Development Areas (PSEDA) in single-industry towns of Kondrovo and Sosensky will be result of step-by-step transition from sectoral management to territorial management in Kaluga Region. Officially, Sosensky single-industry town obtained PSEDA status in late 2017. Currently, negotiation portfolio contains several projects in IT area and also in food and consumer industries.  

It should be reminded that almost 80% of new enterprises are concentrated in 12 industrial parks of Kaluga Region, more than 180 investment projects are implemented there, and 14 companies became residents of SEZ. 10 sectoral clusters were formed; in particular, pharmaceutical cluster, cluster of aerospace technologies, cluster of polymer composite materials and structures, agro-industrial, automotive, transport and logistics clusters, cluster of construction materials, cluster of metal processing. Both Russian and foreign globally renowned companies successfully operate in cluster format in the region. Major international companies are oriented at long-term development of local production and they demonstrate commitment to the Russian market by extending production facilities, increasing product range of their products and developing cooperation ties with local suppliers. Not only production volumes and pool of partners are growing, but also export geography of these companies. Enterprises of Kaluga Region export their goods in 84 countries worldwide.
