New Production Facility of Sanatmetal Hungary, Commissioned in Kaluga Region

On July 4, 2018 Sanatmetal CIS LLC commissioned a new plant in Obninsk, Kaluga Region. The production facility is to manufacture implants for traumatology,  spine surgery, dentistry, and veterinary as well as joint implants.  The ceremony was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga Region Governor, Janos Balla, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Hungary to Russia,  Josef Farkas, Director General, Sanatmetal LLC, Sergey Cherpak, Director General, Sanatmetal CIS LLC, and officials from the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.   

Sanatmetal manufactures over 25,000 types of products of specialty stainless steel and titanium alloys. The company operates in 35 countries of Americas, Europe and Asia.  Sanatmetal is a strategic supplier of three global companies representing TOP5 global leaders in the firld of traumatology and orthopedics.    

Sanatmetal CIS  is a Russian-Hungarian joint venture and a subsidiary of  Sanatmetal Kft. The company invested about RUR 250 million in its plant in Kaluga Region. The plant is to manufacture 150,000-180,000 SKUs per annum (screws, plates, shafts, heads, etc.). The company employs 60 people.

Sanatmetal medical products have been supplied to the Russian market for over 15 years. The company’s products for traumatology are widely known and popular with the Russian medical community.  

Josef Farkas said that the company was to supply its products to Russia and the countries of the Eurasian Union. He noted: “We plan to cooperate with Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster’s companies.  The decision to build a plant in Russia and to transfer technologies was taken with due consideration of our strategic objectives. Next week I am to hold a meeting with Hungarian companies interested in cooperation with Russian businesses. Kaluga Government offered transparent and comfortable conditions for our innovative project’s implementation. We found qualified specialists and engineers in Kaluga Region.  It is important for us to integrate knowledge of Russian and Hungarian experts to attain our targets. We plan to get a 10-15% share in the Russian market”.

Sergey Cherpak, Director General, Sanatmetal CIS LLC, said: “This is the first Hungarian company in Russia to bring so innovative equipment and technologies to the Russian market. We hope, our share in this market will continue growing”.

Anatoly Artamonov said: “We strive to create the economy of knowledge in our region. And we succeed in attaining this objective thanks to innovative production facilities like this one. The efficiency of an innovative business will grow through cooperation with Obninsk companies. I am positive that the commissioning of Sanatmetal plant is a major step in Kaluga pharmaceutical cluster development. This is to further improve the quality of medical services in Russia”.

Janos Balla, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Hungary to Russia, noted: “Hungarian companies manage to find areas of common interest with Russian businesses. We bring knowledge, first of all, as Hungary is not rich in natural resources. Sanatmetal is the second major Hungarian project in Russia. Investments in development and localization projects are on the list of top priorities for Hungarian companies”.
