Japanese Companies Explore Business Opportunities Offered by Kaluga Region

Russian Governors and top managers of major Russian technology companies are to visit Tokyo, Japan, with a business mission on February 4-5, 2019. Kaluga Region delegation is headed by Vladimir Popov, Deputy Governor. The visit is organized by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects and Russcongress Foundation in cooperation with Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).  

Russian regions, including Kaluga Region, are to present business opportunities to Japanese companies. Presentations will be delivered to inform the business community of Japan with priorities of social and economic development of the Russian regions, investment projects, available infrastructure and support offered by Russian government agencies to investors.

On the first day of the visit Svetlana Chupsheva, CEO, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives to Promote New Projects, Hiroyuki Isige, Chairman,  Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Milhail Galuzin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Japan, and Sergey Egorov, Trade representative of the Russian Federation in Japan, are to make welcoming speeches.  

Kaluga Region delegation is to hold meetings with Japanese businessmen in the course of the visit. They are to discuss potential for cooperation in various areas. Apart from that, a meeting is to be held with the management of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, which implements an investment project in Kaluga Region in alliance with  PSA Peugeot-Citroen.

The visit agenda also provides for meetings with Shigeru Murayama,  Chairman of the Board in Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. and President,  Japan Association for Trade with Russia & NIS, and Hiroshige Seko, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, who also holds the position of the Minister for Economic Cooperation with Russia.

The business mission to Tokyo is to promote the development of trade and economic cooperation between Russia and Japan, and will donate to increase in the number of joint Russian-Japanese investment and technology projects. The visit is organized within the framework of the Year of Japan in Russia and the Year of Russia in Japan.  

Note:

An alliance of PSA Peugeot-Citroen and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation implements an automotive industry investment project in Kaluga Region (PSMA Rus OOO). V holds a 30% share in the venture. Toyota Tsusho RUS OOO implements a project, which provides for establishment of a warehousing facility to supply automotive components (bumpers)  to PSMA Rus OOO  plant.

In January-November 2018 the turnover of trade between Kaluga Region ad Japan reached US$ 340.6 million (it increased by 2.1 times YOY).
