Population

According to the State Statistics Service of Russia, as of January 1, 2017 the population of Kaluga Region was 1,014,600 inhabitants, including an urban population of 768,770 people (75.96%).

Economically active population - 534,500 people.

Population density — 33.7 people per sq.km. However, there are considerable internal variances in territory development. The area with the highest density is the southern part of the Moscow agglomeration.

It includes Kaluga - 342,000 people, Obninsk - 111,400, Lyudinovo - 39,000, Maloyaroslavets - 28,100, Balabanovo - 25,400, Kirov - 30,900 and Borovsk.

Population structure:

Russian — 86%;

Ukrainian — 1.6%;

other — 12,4%.
