There are 62 medical organizations of various profile operating in Kaluga Region, 24 central district hospitals, 10 regional specialized medical institutions, 13 city healthcare centers, 8 local hospitals, 25 outpatient clinics, 380 medical and obstetrical stations, 4 sanatoriums, 278 private healthcare institutions.  In 2015, Kaluga Region had the second highest birth rate growth in Russia (after Sevastopol), with around 13,000 babies born in the region that year. The birth rate was 12.7 per capita (107.6% to the previous year) – the second highest result among regions of the Central Federal District.
