On the 25th of May the international Airport «Kaluga» was put into operation. In the official ceremony, dedicated to the completion of the airport, the governor of Kaluga region Anatoly Artamonov, the Deputy Minister of transport of the Russian Federation Okulov, the General Director of «The international Airport «Kaluga»» AO Salavat Kutushev took part.

The international Airport «Kaluga» belongs to B class and is optimized for receiving the aircrafts of type A – 319, Boeing – 737 and the others of the same or lower class. The handling capacity of the passenger terminal is on average 100 passengers per hour. The foreseeable volume of passenger traffic is up to 500 000 people a year by 2030. Since 2016 the provision of services for business aviation maintenance and the hangar storage of airplanes.

Valery Okulov: «The enthusiasm, energy and perseverance of the governor and his team, through which the project was implemented, deserve the highest respect. Everything was accomplished qualitatively and within a short time. The airport services will be in demand by the residents of Kaluga and of neighbor regions».

The Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Air Transport Konstantin Makhov emphasized that the airport «Kaluga» would give a new impulse to the social and economic development of the region.

In his turn, Anatoly Artamonov thanked everybody for the work done. «In the nearest time we must receive all the necessary documents and prepare for the official opening”, made a comment the Head of the region.

The airport will connect Kaluga with Russian industrial and resort cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhnii Novgorod, Kazan, Sochi, Simferopol etc. In the nearest future international flights are expected. Turkey, Egypt, Germany, Italy and other countries will become nearer and more accessible not only for Kaluga citizens, but also for the residents of the Central Federal District.

During the press conference it was mentioned, that the first airplanes from the airport would fly to the Crimea, Sochi and St. Petersburg.

According to the pace of construction, financing, technologies and implementation time, the international Airport «Kaluga» is an unprecedented project. The runway was completely reconstructed only within 5 months. Turn-off strips, airsides and parking for aircrafts were constructed for the same period of time. Since the start of construction less than a year has passed.

It is instructive to recall that on the 18th of December, 2014 the international airport «Kaluga» took the first technical flight. Boeing – 737, which had taken off from the Moscow airport Vnukovo, successfully landed in Kaluga.

And on the 20th of May, 2015 a test launch of the International Airport “Kaluga” took place. It was held with the purpose to check whether the airport’s systems and services are ready to serve their passengers in the building of the airport or not.  In the course of putting the airport terminal into operation, the specialists of the passenger transportation management service, of the aviation safety, of the airfield service  and of the special airport vehicles service were trained.
