On April 16, 2015 the first production facility of SMK OOO, a Cellino S.r.l. subsidiary, was commissioned in Kaluga. The company is one of the largest manufacturers of truck components in Europe. Apart from that, it also manufactures components for construction and agricultural machinery, parts for compressors of the leading global brands and elevators. SMK OOO plant is located in the territory of Kaluzhsky Dvigatel OAO.
The ceremony was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga Region Governor, Fabricio Cellino, Cellino Group President, Yuri Leikovsky, Kaluzhsky Dvigatel OAO Director General.
The investments in the project equaled EUR 10 million. Up to 50 new jobs have been created. The project is to be implemented in two stages. The first one provides for commissioning of a production line to manufacture aluminum gas tanks for trucks. At the second stage the production capacity is to be increased and the range of manufactured products is to be extended. The plant is to produce steel gas tanks, oil tanks, components for cross pieces and frames, as well as parts for car and truck bodies.
SMK OOO has launched a new innovative robotized welding line. High efficiency of the equipment ensures timely production, high reliability and high quality of finished products. Cellino S.r.l. is the proprietary owner of the relevant technology and know-how.
Fabricio Cellino noted the importance of the project implemented in Kaluga for Cellino. He also thanked Anatoly Artamonov for support provided to the project.
Osvaldo Paolo Tappero, SMK OOO CEO, said that Kaluga Region was the most promising Russian region from the economical point of view, and it was very attractive for implementation of European companies’ projects.
Anatoly Artamonov in his turn delivered a speech to wish all success to the Italian company in manufacturing high quality products. He said: “Kaluzhsky Dvigatel offering vacant areas to investors gets a boost in its own development. It is able to revamp its production facilities and retain qualified personnel. We believe that there should be more examples of mutually beneficial cooperation between investors and our traditional economy companies. We strongly support such initiatives”.
It is worth mentioning that in November 2013 Gervasi, an Italian company, launched production of truck bodies at Kaluzhsky Dvigatel territory.

The trade turnover between Kaluga region and Italy in 2014 grew by 20.1% to reach US$220.7 million, including export operations (US$1.97 million (88.9% growth), and import operations (US$218.7 million (19.7%growth)).
Italy accounts for a 3.6% share in Kaluga Region foreign trade turnover in 2014.
