On April 4, the official foundation stone ceremony was held at the Kaluga South industrial park to celebrate the start of construction of a new production plant for Continental Automotive Systems RUS OOO.

The event was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, Governor of Kaluga Region, Jose Avila, Head of the Powertrain Division and Board Member of Continental AG, and Christian Koegl, CEO of Continental Automotive Systems RUS OOO and President of the Powertrain Division in Russia.

Investments in the new production facility are around EUR 20 million. By 2015, nearly 100 new jobs will be created at the site, which will produce up to 1 million engine control units per year. The building is designed to have 7,200 m2 of effective production space, with production itself planned to commence in 2014.

During the official ceremony, the parties signed a protocol of mutual understanding.

The Powertrain division, which is part of the Automotive Group, manufactures efficient modern components for automobile engines. Its extensive range of products includes fuel and diesel injection systems, engine control units, transmission units and fuel supply systems, both traditional (fuel) and innovative (hybrid and electrical).
