The Interfax international information services group has developed a system for rating Russian regions by fundamental efficiency and environmental responsibility of their businesses. Kaluga Region was included in the top five for 2012.

According to Interfax, the rating is intended not only for the regions themselves, but also for their creditors and investors, who take the environmental factor into account in their economic decision making.

“The rating’s methodology assigns top positions to regions with highly efficient businesses, implying eco- and energy efficiency and technological efficiency, that demonstrate high efficiency growth rates and a high degree of transparency”, explained Alexander Martynov, Director of the Interfax-ERA Environmental and Energy Rating Agency.
