On Thursday, June 27, 2013, Grabtsevo airport reconstruction was discussed at a meeting in the Ministry for Regional Development of the Russian Federation.

In 2013-2014 Grabtsevo airport facilities are to be revamped, relevant certificated will be obtained and a border crossing point established. According to the design estimates RUR 3.3 billion will be required for the airport runway reconstruction.  

The meeting attendees from the Ministry for Regional Development of the Russian Federation and Kaluga Region Government expressed great interest in establishment of an international airport near Kaluga, which may become an auxiliary airport for the Moscow region.
