On May 19, Berlin-Pharma opened a new pharmaceutical plant in Kaluga’s Grabtsevo industrial park. The total amount invested in the project exceeded EUR 40 million. The company is the manufacturing division of Berlin-Chemie AG in Russia and part of the Menarini group. The opening ceremony was attended by Maxim Akimov, First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Federation Government, Kaluga Region’s Governor Anatoly Artamonov and Berlin-Chemie AG Board Member Doctor Hans-Joerg Kilian.
The 10,000 sq.m plant is already producing nearly 3 million packages of medications per month. When the plant reaches design capacity, its output will increase to 50 million packages per year. Medications manufactured by the plant are used in diabetology. gastroenterology, cardiology and urology.
In his welcome address, the Russian Government’s First Deputy Chief of Staff Maxim Akimov read out a telegram from Dmitry Medvedev. The Prime Minister emphasized that the implementation of such a large project was possible due to the favorable investment climate created in the region.
Kaluga Region’s Governor Anatoly Artamonov stated that the region’s pharmaceutical cluster includes more than 40 companies. Eleven major production facilities are currently in construction, with some of them already in operation.
“By 2020, nearly 15% of our region’s total industrial output will be contributed by pharmaceutical companies. And by that time we intend to secure over 20% of Russia’s pharmaceutical market”, said Anatoly Artamonov.
