On November 27, 2014 an official ceremony dedicated to opening of a new  Volvo Trucks / Renault Trucks truck cab plant took place in Kaluga – South industrial park.  The ceremony was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga region Governor, Peter Andersson, CEO, Volvo Group Russia, and Olivier Vidal, Vice President, Volvo Group, Production.

The truck cab welding and coating plant is located next to Volvo truck and excavator production facilities. The initial design capacity of the new production facility  equals 15,000 truck cabs per annum, including 10,000 cans for Volvo trucks, and 5,000 cabs for Renault trucks. Thus the production volume of the new plant coincides with the production volume of the  Kaluga Volvo Group truck plant opened in 2009.

Volvo Group has invested about EUR 90 million in the construction of the truck cab plant. The production facility territory equals 2.96 ha, the area of production and warehousing facilities is  25,000 sq.m. The new plant is to employ 350 people.  The manufacturing plant includes three main areas – a warehouse, a cab welding zone, where the cabs are welded of forged components, and the coating zone. In the course of the new plant design the Volvo Production System was taken into consideration, including its HSE requirements.  The production facility staff attended all necessary training sessions and its qualifications are fully in line with Volvo Group requirements to truck cab production personnel.

After the cab  is manufactured the production support department personnel arrange its delivery to the warehouse. Later on the cab is loaded for delivery to the final assembly line of the Kaluga Volvo Group plant. Thus tight cooperation between two Volvo Group production facilities is ensured.

Peter Andersson, CEO, Volvo Group Russia, said: “I am absolutely positive that the presence of company’s production facilities in Russia plays the decisive role in holding the leader’s position in this market. Today we open a new page in the history of Volvo Group presence in Russia. The new truck cab welding and coating plant – is another large step in increasing the degree of Volvo products’ localization, which is to reach 45% by 2018.  This is truly a new height for us. The cooperation between different Volvo plants located in Kaluga will bring us even closed to our customers and allow us to offer the products of the highest quality made in Kaluga”.

Olivier Vidal, Vice President, Volvo Group, Production, said: “ We have everything we need to attain the objectives set for our company, - business relations with Kaluga Region based on trust, and highly qualified personnel we found in Kaluga. Our localization plans to be implemented by 2020 provide for construction of an axle production facility as well as a gearbox assembly plant .
