Delegation from One of Germany’s Finest Technical Universities Visits Kaluga

On March 26, a delegation from the Rhine-Westphalia Technical University in Germany arrived in Kaluga to discuss potential cooperation in the field of staff training and share experience in implementation of dual education programs. Specifically, participants discussed a joint program for development of staff for the transport and logistics cluster of Kaluga Region.

The Rheine-Westphalia Technical University (RWTH) has 260 departments and a number of research centers specializing in studies of industry demands. “We support the idea of combining different disciplines, developing new education quality standards. We collaborate closely with companies and organizations to assist them in training of specialists with high qualification. Once developed, each unique training system undergoes a certification process”, explained RWTH’s representative. The university’s scientific research activities have resulted in numerous innovations, patents and certificates.

Participants of the meeting noted that the idea and model for the creation of a transport and logistics cluster is one of Kaluga Region’s strategic development priorities. “There will be two international airports, a major Russian international format logistics center Freight Village Kaluga, which is currently in the active development stage, and logistics terminals in the region’s industrial parks”, added Ilya Veselov, General Director of the Agency for Regional Development of Kaluga Region. Robust economic development requires the improvement of the educational system; the dual approach to training is currently applied at the Center for Training and Retraining of Automotive Industry Specialists, and a similar project is being implemented for the pharmaceutical industry.

Thus, the issue of improvement of training of highly qualified specialists is very relevant for the region.
