An official groundbreaking ceremony was held in Vorobyevo, Maloyaroslavets District, at a site where a new plant producing Extra white salt is to be built. The event was attended by Anatoly Artamonov, acting Governor of Kaluga Region, and Mikhail Karamushka, Director General, Tyrets Salt Mine OAO.

The planned capacity of the new production facility is 150,000 t of rock salt per annum. About 100 new jobs are to be created.  Vorobyovo deposit explored and registered reserves equal 941,000 t,  i.e. 11% of all salt reserves in the Central Federal District.  In terms of its chemical composition the salt meets the requirements of white salt of Extra, 1st and 2nd grades.

The new plant is to produce salt under Kaluga Salt brand. Tyrets Salt Mine OAO has completed all survey works at Vorobyevo deposit and the construction works are to commence in August 2015.  The most modern processes will be used to produce salt. After drilling water will be used to dissolve rock salt under ground. After that the salt solution will be evaporated to produce pure salt.  The productivity of this process is four times higher than that of traditional mining methods and the relative capital costs decrease by almost 7 times.

According to Mikhail Karamushka, over RUR 2 billion will be invested in the project. He said: “Thanks to the new plant the share of high quality Russian salt in the domestic market is to increase”.
