NLMK-Kaluga is a next generation metallurgical plant, which is a part of NLMK Russia Rolled Products Division (NLMK-Long). Commissioning of NMLK-Kaluga plant, which took place in July 2013, was recognized as the major event of the year in Russian metallurgical industry at the opening ceremony of Metal-Expo 2013 Exhibition in Moscow.

Production capacities of the plant allow producing 1.5 mln tons of steel and 0.9 mln tons of rolled steel per year, moreover, the plant has unique equipment in Russia, enabling it to produce the widest range of premium-brand rebars for construction purposes.

Already six months after the commissioning, NLMK plant achieved maximum workload of its rolling facilities and it keeps the achieved high production level irrespective of market trends. Thanks to implementation of innovative process and management solutions the plant demonstrates positive dynamics of increase in productivity and cutting costs.

Construction of the plant started in 2008.

Total investments for project implementation amounted to RUR 32 bln. The plant is fully ensured with raw materials – iron scrap metal – due to supplies from scrap collecting companies of NLMK Group.

Launching of new-generation electrical metallurgical plant NLMK-Kaluga allowed creating about 2,000 new jobs, among them 1,250 immediately in metallurgical production.

“High-quality steel is used by our plant to produce about 20 types and standard sizes of rolled bars and shaped bars or is marketed as square bloom. Process solutions that were incorporated at the construction phase enable us to operatively re-adjust rolling mill to produce different types of rolled bars subject to requirements of clients and market trends.”

Sergey Shalyaev, Director General of NLMK-Kaluga

Commissioning of NMLK-Kaluga plant allowed reducing deficit of rebars existing in Central Federal District and supply high-quality metal products to the construction industry of the region. Annual production volume of the plant may cover construction need of 12.5 mln sq.m of residential space in monolith and monolith-brick buildings or 19.5 mln sq.m of residential space in panel buildings.
