On June 1, 2017 the Government of Kaluga Region and OMYA URAL OOO concluded a memorandum of intentions at Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum. The memorandum provides for implementation of an investment project, namely the construction of the second stage of a crushed marble plant.
The document was signed by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga Region Governor, and Harald Pfaller, the head of South East Division, OMYA, Switzerland.
The first OMYA production facility was built in Vorsino industrial park. It was commissioned in September 2014. The plant manufactures fine marble powder (>5 μm) used both as an additive and a pigment in paint, paper, plastic and construction materials industries. The plant has a capacity of over 100,000 t per annum. OMYA plans to increase its production capacity in the near future by adding another production shop, which is to produce fine and ultra-fine powders applying modern innovative technologies. The company is to invest EUR 15 million in the project. The new facility is to be commissioned in 2018. Products are to be supplied to the Central Federal District and Volga District regions.
Anatoly Artamonov noted that currently Kaluga Region Government is focused on creation and expansion of hi-tech production facilities, manufacturing of competitive products in line with President Vladimir Putin’s decree On long-term government economic policy. He said: “It is very important that the new facility is to produce innovative products being in high demand in various industries. Kaluga Region Government will provide all necessary support to OMYA URAL project”.
According to Harald Pfaller, the production facility to be built in Kaluga Region will be the largest facility in Russia manufacturing fine treated dispersion products of natural calcium carbonate. He said: “Kaluga Region is of strategical importance for our company in terms of expansion of the existing production facilities and construction of new plants to manufacture innovative import substitution products”.
