Samsung Electronics announces the commissioning of a new production line at its plant located in Kaluga Region to manufacture washing machines. The manufactured products will be supplied to 20 Eastern and Western European countries.   Apart from that, the plant started producing unique AddWash series washing machines in September 2016. The machines have an additional door for clothes the owner initially forgot to put in the machine, and detergents during the washing cycle. It will not be necessary to  drain water prior to these operations. The information was provided during a press tour Samsung organized at its Kaluga Region plant for correspondents from federal and regional mass media.  

Starting from September 2016 Samsung Electronics Rus Kaluga will export its washing machines to 20 European countries, including Austria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Denmark, Sweden,  Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia and Hungary.  The first export batch of washing machines will be delivered to Riga warehouse. The products will be sold in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

Samsung has been investing in its Russian production facilities for almost 10 years. Li Ching-Sun, Vice President, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Russia, said: “Samsung products manufactured in Kaluga Region have proven their high quality and compliance with international standards.  Our Kaluga plant will not only start producing products for export sales, but will also increase its production capacity. It has already produced a batch of innovative washing machined for the Russian market. We are proud of  Samsung Electronics Rus Kaluga engineering and production capabilities”.  

Li Hvan Kyun, Samsung Electronics Kaluga plant director general, noted that all Samsung products supplied to Russia and the CIS countries are manufactured at Kaluga Region plant. He said: ”Commissioning of a new production line to manufacture washing machines for export purposes is an important step for the plant development.  This is not just the expansion of our production capacity, but also a proof of good quality of our products. The Kaluga Region plant is able to maintain high quality of its products, manufacturing innovative hi-tech appliances for the European market”.  

Dmitry Kartashev, Director, Sales of Home Appliances, Audio and Video Equipment, Samsung Electronics, Russia, said that this September Samsung would start selling innovative AddWash washing machines in Russia. He noted: “We are proud by the fact that Kaluga Region plant manages to launch production of innovative home appliances and electronics in no time, thus we can offer the most modern equipment to our Russian customers at the best price”. 

Samsung Electronics plant, located in Vorsino industrial park, Kaluga Region, manufactures TV sets, displays and home appliances (washing machines). Samsung has invested over US$ 250 million inn its Kaluga Region plant. The modern production facility was commissioned in 2008. It employs over 1,200 residents of the region.    

The plant production floor area equals 40,600 sq.m.  The plant includes assembly shops, a shop for production of printed boards and microchips and plastic molding shops. Apart from that, SRDC, the main warehouse for Samsung products imported to Russia, is also located in the plant territory.  

Russian companies are among the plant contractors, they supply components and raw materials, which promotes localization process. For instance the degree of Samsung washing machines’ production localization reached 50% in December 2015. Furthermore, the plant has an advantageous location. In November 2015 Samsung initiated New Silk Road project, providing for establishing a transportation route connecting North East Asia with European partners and consumers via the Russian territory. The project allows to reduce lead times, which helps optimize production processes and cut logistics costs.
