Implants for Orthopedic and Traumatic Surgery to Be Produced in Kaluga Region

An agreement of intent between Kaluga Region Government and Sanatmetal CIS OOO was signed on March 3, 2016. The agreement provides for implementation of a project to build a plant to manufacture implants for traumatic surgery, spine surgery, dentistry and veterinary. Apart from that, the new facility is to produce joint implants. The agreement was signed by Anatoly Artamonov, Kaluga Region Governor, and Sergey Cherpak, Director, Sanatmetal CIS OOO.

The parties have reached a preliminary agreement to build a new production facility in Obninsk. Sanatmelal CIS OOO is to invest about RUR 220 million in the project. Sixty new jobs will be created.  The construction is to be completed at the end of 2016 – in the beginning of 2017.   

Sergey Cherpak noted that Sanatmetal manufactured over 25,000 products of special stainless steel and titanium alloys. The company operates in 35 countries (Americas, Asia, Europe, Arab and the CIS  countries). Sanatmetal is a strategic supplier of three out of five global companies comprising TOP5 in the global  orthopedic and traumatic surgery market.

He said: “Our new plant in Obninsk is to manufacture products of entirely new quality. Our objective is to become the leaders in the Eurasian Economic Community market”.

The quality of products to be manufactured will be ensured both by materials used and their physical properties and by applying quality control methods in line with harmonized EC standards (ISO 9001:2000, ISO 13485:2003, ISO 14001:2005). British Standards Institute and EMKI act as notified bodies.

Anatoly Artamonov noted that the project was of high importance for Kaluga Region.

He said: “Firstly, this is a project of high social importance. Our medical institutions and, what is even more important, local patients, need these products. Secondly, the plant is to manufacture hi-tech products. We strive to build  knowledge economy in the region, and such projects provides relevant support to our efforts.  Thirdly, this is an import substitution project. The products of such high quality will definitely be in great demand in the global market”.
